I can remember several German POW鈥檚 worked at my uncle鈥檚 farm at Raydon Mill.

They lived in the barn and cooked their own meals on a large woodburning stove and were relatively comfortable.

They were friendly to us and made some beautiful wooden toys. They even made a clock for my mother, hiding the workings inside an old tin.

Some of them corresponded with us for years afterwards.
