Our wedding day was on the 21st December 1939. It was held at Bakewell Registry Office. The war had begun in September. We spent the evening getting ready for our big day. My future husband was staying at our house, because my father was fire watching in Agard Street in Derby. They were bombing around Coventry, so mum, John, myself and Sheila the dog spent a lot of that night under the table!
We had been whipping cream up from what felt like hours. I can鈥檛 remember what we had to eat! I wore a grey suit and a hand knitted maroon jumper. I borrowed a beautiful fox fur which belonged to my aunt. I also wore a maroon hat and hand knitted maroon gloves.
