On the night the docks got hit, it was dreadful. My mother and I were living at home, with our house being quite big, we had airmen billeted with us, we were very lucky; they were all very nice men. One night there was a very heavy bombing around us, they had been dropping incendiary bombs (they start fires you know), I had to go up into the attic in case any of these things had fallen through the roof.
We got through the early years of the war quite well I think. Eventually though we got very badly damaged in the bombing. Mother and I had to leave Liverpool to go and live with my brother who lived in Cheshire and really, apart from coming into work, that was the end of me with Liverpool.
