This story was passed on by my Mother. My Dad was stationed at Biggin Hill for part of the war. After hearing a rumour that Birmingham had been bombed flat he and his friend (name unknown) went A.W.O.L. and walked from Kent to Birmingham to make sure their families were alright. When he arrived at home, his feet were so swollen my Mom had to cut his army boots off and the M.P.s arrived soon after him. He got two weeks jankers for it and it turned out to be Coventry that was hit.
