I worked in the office of Strachan Photographers in Union Street during the war. One day I was walking along Summer Street when a German plane flew the length of Union Street. I looked up and the pilot started showering us with bullets. I heard the noise pit, pit, pit at my feet and flew for my life.

The other fright I got was when an unexploded bomb landed and we heard the switch. We hid in the lobby of 28 South Mount Street to get away from it.
