I was eight when the war began. We lived near the water tower in Withernsea.
I can remember being in bed when there was a massive expolsion, the window was blown out and there was glass on the bed. The bookcase came down and landed on top of my brother. I remember trying to get him out from under the books. He couldn't speak, I think he was in shock. This lasted for a few hours even when he'd been rescued. It had been caused by a landmine dropped by parachute. The next day they went and collected the silk from the parachute.
