This story was submitted to Amandsa Wilkins at Newhaven Fort on September 18th by Jane and Elaine Darlow (daughters of the late Coral Hill) with their permission. They fully understand the site's terms and conditions.

Mum really wanted to go into the Transport Corps but was told she was too tiny, she was only about 5ft. So they told her she would be better working on the land. Initially she worked for the Co-op fruit farm picking fruit, but later she got a job with the NAAFI Supply Depot at Old Welwyn in Hertfordshire and she was then in the Logistic Dept for the troops as they went abroad and worked out all their ration supplies.

She had to work out how many pounds of butter etc would feed a whole regiment. It was quite demanding and really a good job in the end.

Mrs Darlow died ion 2000.
