It was Sunday, 29th December 1941. My parents had been visiting an aunt for Christmas,but now they had to return to their home in Central London in order to go to work the next day. They boarded the train at Biggleswade and by the time they reached Hitchin an orange glow illuminated the horizon. This intensified and grew as they drew nearer the capital,this was London on fire! At Kings Cross passengers were advised not to go out into the streets but to take shelter from the bombs. Needless to say,they did manage to get home safely.
