I was very young during the War and my memories can be a little sketchy but one that sticks in my mind in particular is when an incendiary bomb was dropped on the house next door to my family home. I remember my father carrying me to a neighbour's house to safety. I remember then returning to my house hours later and going to the cellar only to find my pink slippers floating on the water in the cellar. I didn't lose any members of my family in all the bombings but I remember that we used to sleep under the 'Morrisons shelter' and regularly people would join us there for moral support. Neighbours were very important then.
