My father was born and brought up in Poland. He was already in the Polish army when the second world war broke out. He escaped, via internment in hungary, to France where he joined up with other Poles who went to the aid of France. He escaped again via Bordeaux to England where he was sent to Scotland where the Polish 1st Armoured Division was formed.

After four years in Scotland, involvement in Normandy (Caen/Falaise), northern France, Belgium, Holland and Germany he settled in the UK ending up in South Wales where he married my mother.

I researched and wrote a brief history of my fathers wartime activities and through this developed an interest in the second world war.

I have since retraced some of his steps including visiting the various battlefields in Normandy.
