While researching my father's wartime service on HMS Sharpshooter I discovered that the ship was one of 21 Halcyon Class minesweepers and survey ships whose distinguished service has not been reported in any great detail.
I am in the process of gathering information to put onto a web site which will give the ships and their crews the recognition they deserve. I am going through the records at the National Archive in Kew, the Imperial War Museum and the Maritime Museum at Greenwich. I have also found several books with useful information.
I would be pleased to receive any information about the following ships and, indeed, will be happy to offer to anyone such information as I have already obtained. The ships are: HM Ships Bramble, Britomart, Franklin, Gleaner, Gossamer, Halcyon, Harrier, Hazard, Hebe, Hussar, Jason, Leda, Niger, Salamander, Seagull, Scott, Sharpshooter, Skipjack, Speedwell, Speedy and Sphinx.
The site will be a tribute to the men and their ships and will not in any way be a commercial venture.
Note: As of Jan 2006 the site is nearly ready and will be at www.halcyon-class.co.uk
