My memories are unclear but revived by prompting from my parents. They were farmers & fruitgrowers in Ayrshire & were allocated a certain quota of produce to retail. The remainder had to be sent to market in Glasgow. There was great demand for this retail sale of tomatoes & the queues extended a very long way. The customers were so grateful to buy this lovely fresh produce that they put money in my pram as I sat outside the packing shed window. My parents were very concerned lest I should put any of these coins in my mouth & choke. They had to keep a close eye on me & I was an exeedingly rich baby (people left coins of all values & even 10/- & 拢1 notes - a large amount of money then).
