Help someone and help yourself
I live in upstate NY, and have studied Spanish on my own for years. I travel to Mexico whenever I can, very interested in the Mayan culture. It's hard to keep any language in your brain when you aren't using it. I became a volunteer ESL (English as a Second Language) tutor, and work with the migrant population. They appreciate my interest in them very much, and at the same time, I am able to "be around" the language.
