Use computer games

I'm learning Japanese, so I went to an import store for computer games in Japanese. It also helps watching the anime in Japanese with English captions.

I also watch Naruto and Naruto: Shippuūden with English subs. My Japanese is better now because I can say and understand several phrases and words. But I'm still confused about dattebayo. Some people say it means "believe it", some say it means "it is", and some say it's just a phrase that Naruto says to annoy us. What does it actually mean? The subtitles just don't translate it.

I love Naruto too and now thanks to Naruto I've got my own Manga coming out. I'm learning Japanese now too. I also watch a lot of different animes to like cowboy bebop. I watch them all in japanese before I watch them in English.

I love Naruto, it's the best - it helped me learn Japanese and how to draw manga.

Yes watching the Japanese show really does work :D I also find that if you go to librarys they have lots of books to help you learn Japanese I've got a few here at the moment from my library.

What you should do is watch Japanese kids' shows, like Super Sentai. Although it is VERY campy, they repeat certain words and phrases many times, which allowed me to add them to my vocabulary fairly easily.

I'm learning Japanese, too. Listening to Utada Hikaru's songs (in Japanese) and watching the original Naruto series with subtitles really works.

Yes, I watch the animations in Japanese with English subtitles as well, it really helps and now I can understand most of it without subtitles!

Yes, it is true. I've been watching (Japanese) Naruto episodes with English subs and now I'm speaking more Japaneses than the Spanish I'm learning in school! Reading Japanese fan fiction also helps!

Yeah, I agree, I bought all the DragonballZ episodes on dvd, which (the real ones) are in Japanese but with English subtitles and I'm now able to make out words a lot better. There are 296 episodes, all 20 mins long!
