Engage brain before speaking!
When I first arrived in France I went to a bank to open our new account. I stepped up to the counter and said in everyone's hearing Y a-t-il quelqu'un ici qui parle français ? ("Is there anybody here who speaks French?") It was some time before everyone recovered. I was too anxious about getting the question grammatically right and forgetting the content.
