We are the champignons, my friend

I get confused over the French word for champion, le champion and the French word for mushroom, le champignon. While on a trip to France I was playing boule. I won and ended up embarrasing myself by saying 'I am the mushroom'.

When England won the rugby world cup final, I was in a sleepy French village with a belly full of beer. I gleefully told everyone I met that the English are the champignons of the world!

Which is also why the Rolls Royce Silver Mist never sold that well in Germany! Mist in German means 'dung' or 'rubbish'.
