The wrong thing to say to any woman (Korean)
When I was studying Korean, I wanted to impress my girlfriend by saying that she was dok dok hada which means 'smart'. Unfortunately I mispronounced it as dung dung hada which means 'fat'. She gave me a swift kick in the bottom!

I studied Serbo-Croatian for almost six months before going to the Balkans. The lessons included the usual stuff about "What is your name? My name is. . ." and so on. One of the lessons had to do with rooms in the house: "This is my clean bedroom, this is my dirty kitchen. This is my large bathroom," and on and on.
So there I was my first day in the country, drinking beer at a cafe, and eventually I needed to use the toilet. I went to the bartender and asked where the bathroom was. He gave me a blank look.
"You want to take a bath?" he asked.
When I was on a visit to France with the school I tried to tell a story about a dead mouse on the ground. Unfortunately, I confused the words souris (mouse) and cerise (cherry). A dead cherry?
I wanted to hear Italian spoken by natives so I went to Yahoo chat and entered the Italian chat room in Italian: immediately my whole computer began communicating in Italian. It took a panic 3 days to go back to English: thank God for paperback dictionaries.
