A hike for me and my beetroot
I remember telling a group of Spaniards about my first visit to Spain when I was 18. I tried to go hitchhiking, but without much success. One of the factors in my lack of success was, I explained, the huge rucksack on my back. Unfortunately, I confused the word for a rucksack una mochila with the word for a beetroot una remolacha. It was altogether a rather surreal image!

I had a similar problem early on with the words Âá²¹²úó²Ô and Âá²¹³¾Ã³²Ô. ´³²¹²úó²Ô means "soap". ´³²¹³¾Ã³²Ô means "ham". Obviously, this situation was ripe for some rather interesting misunderstandings.
This is very funny and a common mistake when you are trying to remember words with similar spelling.
In a Spanish nightclub I once said "Soy calor" to a young man but I found out from my Spanish teacher that I should have said "Tengo calor"! Luckily the man laughed it off!
