The Opening Ceremony
Opening Ceremony

A 4,000-strong cast took part in a 拢12m spectacular in the City of Manchester Stadium to officially open the 2002 Commonwealth Games.

What did you think?

The ceremony was fantastic, loved the way the dancers didnt look like robots like they did at the Sydney olympics. The ballon baton delivery was simply amazing. I also like the human touch with that courageous little girl handing over the baton, something that the Sydney games would have shelved for something with abit more glitter. I have spoken to many people in the stadiums during the games from many countries and they all cant believe how well this games has been delivered. That is, everyone except a few Australians, if the criticism had come from a significant country I may have been bothered but after all, who really cares what Australia thinks, they are hardly the most cultured of nations.

Anthony Davies's commentary MADE the opening ceremony. This guy should be used much more for this kind of thing. He made it very moving. It was a fantastic & special celebration. I cant wait for the finale now. Please dont let the tv commentator spoil Mr Davies's commentary this time.

I enjoyed the opening ceremony. The is too much fuss being about the 6 year old and the queen fiasco. The evening was actually spoilt by the firework display being over a mile away and only able to be viewed on big screens inside the stadium or on TV. The bus service to and from the stadium was wll organised and plaenty of them. As for the metrolink, to Altrincham, they were infrequent, not enough carriages for all the park and riders and very expensive for those who were just going home !!

As a Mancunian living in the US All I can say is that Manchester has a great deal to be proud of! Having not seen ANY of the Games (not even on 麻豆官网首页入口 America- Thanks!) I'm disappointed but I feel very proud that the Manchester games were a fantastic event in the eyes of everyone (except a few Aussies). The organisers and volunteers deserve full credit for everything. Yes- Manchester '96 and Manchester 2000 were maybe a little too much for the rest of the world to believe possible, but as Mancs we have the spirit, pride, belief (despite adversity) and great big hearts- and that makes us capable of anything. The 'world stage' for the likes of Manchester is small and our time on it is over in seconds... I'm very pleased that we showed up, played our part and put the leading lady to shame with our outstanding performance.

The Opening Ceremony was fantastic. A lot of hard work by volunteers of all ages and backgrounds and also the choreography staff. To be part of the Opening Ceremony is something that will always be with me. I have met people from all over the world. The atmosphere from the crowd was fantastic and even on the transport home people were talking how great it was. Well done and all the volunteers look forward to giving you a great performance in the Closing Ceremony. Well done MANCHESTER....
