Commonwealth Games Road Restrictions
Manchester City Centre

Plan your journeys around Manchester during the Games and check our information about road closures and restrictions in and around the city. Click on the day you are due to travel for more detailed information:

:: Wed 24th July - Baton Relay
:: Thu 25 July - Opening Ceremony
:: Sun 28th July - Marathon
:: Sun 4 August - Triathlon
:: Sun 4 August - Closing Ceremony

Alternative Routes:

Road closures for the above dates will divert traffic to the inner ring road with Great Ancoats Street and the Mancunian Way being particularly busy. Leaving Manchester and travelling east will be difficult if you are travelling in the afternoons or evenings during these events. Oldham Road or Hyde Road should be considered as alternative routes into or out of the city centre.

General Road Information:

Ashton Old Road, Ashton New Road, Alan Turing Way and Great Ancoats Street are expected to be extremely busy from 22 July through to 5th August.

Commuters are advised to use the alternative routes of Oldham Road and Hyde Road as far as the M60.

Parking Restrictions:

Parking restrictions are already in force during the working day throughout the city centre. Around the venues the restrictions will be upgraded and the level of enforcement increased for the Games period.

In general, expect city centre car parks to be busier than normal and this may affect those with contract parking.

The G-Mex underground car park will be closed from Monday 22 July to Tuesday 6th August.
