Thankfully, as she goes on to say, this is most definitely not the case and a small army have turned up to see the Irish songstress perform in support of her second album, The Roads Don’t Love You. As such, the set is pitched neatly between new and old material and tunes like I Ran For Miles and Hanging Around are the highlights alongside latest single Happy Sad. Her new, all-American band give the overall sound a real kick, but it is her voice - Joni meets Alanis - that really shines through. She is very relaxed onstage too, despite claims of nerves, and conducts an easy back and forth with the expectant crowd lapping it up throughout. ÌýHaving exiled herself to LA to record her new album and spent close to two years wondering if she should pack it all in, it is easy even for the casual observer to see the blood, sweat and tears that went into recording Roads… has really paid off, and that in a live setting especially, Hayes is glad to be back. |
