Plans for a new hydrogen power plant in North Tyneside have been unveiled.

Lhyfe, which specialises in creating renewable hydrogen sites, is proposing to build the plant at Neptune Bank Power Station in Wallsend.

The firm said the operation could produce up to eight tonnes of green hydrogen per day, if it gets the go-ahead.

This is enough hydrogen to fuel a truck to travel 100,000km without emitting any C02, Lhyfe said.

Taia Kronborg, the firm's chief business officer, said green hydrogen projects were "critical if major energy users are to decarbonise and hit net zero targets".

The firm said it would submit its plans to the council in the spring.
