A boy has appeared in court charged with the murder of a teenager who was fatally stabbed in a park in Wolverhampton.

The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is accused of killing Harleigh Hepworth, also 17, and appeared at Wolverhampton Crown Court via video link.

He was remanded in custody and is next due to appear in court on 12 April.

Harleigh, from Rugeley, Staffordshire, was found with fatal stab wounds in West Park on 7 March.

A boy, 16, who is also charged with Harleigh's murder, remains in custody and is also due to appear before the city's crown court on 12 April.

Det Insp Ade George said West Midlands Police's thoughts remained with the family and friends of Harleigh.

He said extra patrols "in the area will continue to provide reassurance" to the community and support everyone affected.
