New classrooms will be built at a Berkshire special school as part of a 拢4m plan to ensure there are enough spaces for pupils.

Slough Borough Council鈥檚 executive approved a plan to build the four new classrooms at Arbour Vale School.

It said not delivering them would mean 38 children would need to be transferred to other special schools outside the borough.

The authority said building the new classrooms was the 鈥渂est option鈥 available.

It plans to spend 拢2.4m on a new car park and up to 拢1.7m building the classrooms.

Councillor Puja Bedi, the council鈥檚 lead member for education and children鈥檚 services, said: 鈥淣ot delivering these places would mean that 38 children would need to be placed in special schools outside of Slough.

"With a shortage of places in local facilities some might be placed a long way from Slough,鈥 she added.
