Bambie Thug聽to represent Ireland at Eurovision

Singer Bambie Thug is to represent Ireland at the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest.

The artist, from Macroom in County Cork, will sing Doomsday Blue and has promised to do Ireland proud.

Six competitors performed on The Late Late Show Eurovision Special聽on聽RT脡 on Friday.

The winner was chosen by the combined votes of the public phone vote, an international jury and a national jury.

Bambie Thug will travel to Malmo in Sweden in May to perform in the semi-finals.

Speaking to Late Late Show host Patrick Kielty after winning, Bambi Thug said: "I don鈥檛 know how I feel 鈥 I feel incredible.

"My words are gone - as a lyricist you鈥檇 think I鈥檇 have more to say but I鈥檓 speechless 鈥 I鈥檓 so excited and I promise I鈥檓 going to do you so proud."

A panel of聽experts聽joined Kielty in the studio.

Dancing with the Stars judge Arthur Gourounlian, 1993 UK Eurovision entrant Sonia, RT脡 Radio 1 broadcaster Louise Duffy and comedian Gear贸id Farrelly made up the panel.

It was her second Eurovision victory, having previously won in 2012 with Euphoria.

Sweden is now tied with Ireland for the most Eurovision victories, with seven.

Two semi-finals will take place on 7 and 9 May聽followed by the final on Saturday 11 May.聽 聽

The draw to determine which semi-final Ireland will compete and vote in will take place on 30 January.

Previous Irish Eurovision winners聽include Dana, Johnny Logan, 聽Linda Martin, Niamh Kavanagh, Paul Harrington and Charlie McGettigan and Eimear Quinn.
