Rail passengers faced delays and cancellations to services due to a shortage of drivers.

The route between Bedford/Luton Airport and Gatwick Airport/Brighton, via Central London, was expected to be particularly disrupted in both directions due to the disruption in the early hours of Friday.

A Thameslink spokesperson said: "We鈥檙e very sorry that we cancelled some of our services due to train crew shortages."

Southern, which is owned by the same company as Thameslink, says its services would not be impacted but passengers requiring to change trains should check before they travel.

Thameslink had advised customers to check before travelling.

The firm said customers may be entitled to compensation if they experience a delay in completing their journeys on Friday.

The spokesperson added: "We understand this is frustrating and we鈥檙e sorry for the inconvenience it may have caused to people鈥檚 journeys."
