Police appeal after man found unconscious
Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was found in Barnstaple with head injuries he said had been caused after being hit with a baseball bat.
The 54-year-old man was found unconscious behind Queen Anne's caf茅 on the Strand at about 08:30 BST on Friday, Devon and Cornwall Police said.
The man told officers he had been hit with a baseball bat late on Thursday night or early on Friday morning by a man in his 30s with a skinny build who was with a woman with ginger hair.
The man was taken to hospital and later discharged, the police added.
Det Sgt Ben Cartwright said: 鈥淎s part of the ongoing investigation, we are conducting witness and CCTV inquiries.
鈥淲e are appealing for anyone who may have seen an assault overnight on the Strand involving a weapon or the parties described or can recall seeing a man lying injured or unconscious behind Queen Anne鈥檚 caf茅 over the night of Thursday 1 August into Friday 2 August.鈥
He asked that anyone with information about the incident contact Devon and Cornwall Police.
