A vote of no confidence is to be held in the leader of Cornwall Council, it has been confirmed.

More than a third of councillors have signed a motion calling for a ballot on Linda Taylor's future as Conservative leader of the council.

It has been scheduled to be heard at an extraordinary meeting of the authority on 7 November.

The motion was launched by non-aligned councillor John Conway, who resigned from the Conservative group on the council earlier this year.

He cited unhappiness with Taylor's leadership as the reason for his departure.

Independent councillor Julian German seconded the motion.

Speaking prior to confirmation of the vote of no confidence, Taylor said: "We are here wanting to deliver for Cornwall and things like this are a distraction."

Her ruling Conservative group has a majority of just one at County Hall.
