A "suspected grenade" which was found at a bungalow has been destroyed in a controlled explosion, a fire service has said.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said after reports of a device being found, two fire engines were sent to a house on Rivington Drive, Bury, at about 11:15 BST.

It said crews worked alongside Greater Manchester Police to make the area safe.

The force said a 330ft (100m) cordon was put in place before Army bomb disposal experts took the device away and carried out a controlled explosion.
