The impact of the attack is still being assessed with satellite imagery pointing to Parchin, a major military complex near Tehran, having been hit.

The reaction from Iran remains relatively muted – the country's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has said that Tehran must correct what he called Israel's "miscalculation".

He said that any reaction must be decided by what is in Iran's best interests.

In the wake of the attack, a new effort to restart negotiations on a ceasefire and the release of hostages in Gaza is continuing, with the heads of Mossad and the CIA due to meet the prime minister of Qatar – which has been a key mediator.
