A new research and development facility has been opened in Berkshire by chocolate company Mars.

The 拢6m centre at the company's Slough plant is its largest such facility in Europe.

Geoff Bryant, of Mars, said it would provide "opportunities to innovate with big product lines and make them more efficiently".

About 100 staff will be based in the centre which was opened by business minister Michael Fallon.

He said: "This new centre of excellence will attract world class expertise and be a considerable economic benefit to the local area."

The new facility has kitchens, laboratories and a pilot production line for new products.

Mars Bars have been manufactured in Slough since 1932, with the Dundee Road plant now producing 2.5m bars each day.
