Rugby league club Keighley Cougars have been given the go-ahead to build a grandstand "substantially smaller" than the design initially approved.

The Cougarmania Foundation was聽granted permission last year to demolish the club's existing stand to make way for a new 2,000-seat structure.

The club hoped the facility at its Hard Ings Road home would help it achieve its goal of reaching the Super League.

But, instead of going up, the club was relegated from the Championship.

The club went back to Bradford Council with an application to amend its plans for the site and build a smaller grandstand with a capacity of about 500, which could be expanded.

That request has now been approved by the local authority, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

The work will be partially funded by a grant of more than 拢2m from the government's Keighley Towns Fund.
