Coronavirus: Stockport McDonald's shuts as five staff test positive

A McDonald's restaurant has closed after five staff tested positive for Covid-19.

The fast food chain said the branch in Stockport, Greater Manchester, was shut temporarily from Sunday as a precautionary measure.

In , MP Navendu Mishra said he had been contacted by "worried" employees who worked at the Wellington Road South outlet.

McDonald's said customer and staff safety was an "absolute priority".

In a statement, the chain said it had consulted officials at Public Health England to inform them about the actions taken, including a deep clean and the contacting of all relevant employees.

It added: "We have written to Navendu Mishra MP to provide an overview of the safety measures and policies we have in place, and the process that was undertaken."

It said the branch would reopen "as soon as we feel we can."

The company said the affected staff had been advised to isolate.
