A controlled explosion has been carried out in South Ayrshire after historic ordnance was found in a shed.

Residents in Burnfoot Avenue, Troon, were evacuated after police and a bomb disposal team were called out at about 16:15 on Thursday.

An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) robot was seen going towards one of the houses.

A police spokesperson later said the item was made safe and residents were allowed to return to their homes.
