Music news: Did Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus or Harry Styles have the biggest song of 2023?
It was a big year for music in 2023, with many of the world's most popular artists releasing tunes that have gained fans right across the globe.
Some artists in particular have gone on to truly make their mark with their songs, and this is something which is recognised by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI).
Each year, the IFPI gives an award to the artist with the world's best-selling single of the year across all digital platforms including YouTube, Spotify and Apple Music.
So who won the prestigious award this year? Read on to find out and we want to know what YOUR favourite song of 2023 was? Head to the comments below and let us know.
Pop star Miley Cyrus has been awarded the IFPI's Global Single Award for her huge track Flowers.
The singer's hit song, which was released back in January 2023, has already made lots of waves in the music world.
It won record of the year at the Grammys which took place earlier this month, and took the award for best solo pop performance too.
The chart-topping track was also named the longest running number one single in the UK by a female solo artist this decade so far by the Official Charts Company, following an impressive 10 weeks in the top position.
"Topping the charts in so many countries simultaneously, the song - along with its message of empowerment - resonated across the world and is the definition of a truly global hit," said Lewis Morrison who is the director of global charts and certifications at IFPI.
"Congratulations to Miley and her team for this incredible achievement."
Harry Styles, Taylor Swift... Which other songs were big in 2023?
Harry Styles' tune As It Was had been named the biggest selling single of the year for 2022 and listeners continued enjoying the song last year too. It's now number five on the IFPI's 2023 Global Singles Chart.
Taylor Swift, who was the IFPI's Global Recording Artist of the Year in 2022 and 2023, features in the chart's top 10 twice, with her tracks Cruel Summer reaching number seven and Anti-Hero coming in at number nine.
Artist Rema's popular song Calm Down with Selena Gomez was the second best-selling single of the year, while Kill Bill by pop singer SZA took the third spot.
Die For You by The Weeknd and Ariana Grande comes in at number four.
Overall, artists of 10 different nationalities across five continents are represented in the IFPI's Global Singles Chart's top 20.
