In a nail-biting swim, GB's Adam Peaty won silver in the 100m breaststroke final in Paris, but he narrowly missed out on gold.

There was just two-hundredths of a second between the British swimmer and Italy's Nicolò Martinenghi who beat him to the gold.

Adam Peaty won gold at the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 2020 Summer Olympics in 2021, the first British swimmer to keep a title two Olympics in a row.

He was hoping to get a third gold, matching the great American swimmer Michael Phelps who is the only male swimmer to get three golds in a row.

The medal means Peaty now has six Olympic medals overall – three golds and three silvers.

Peaty finished in a tie for second with American Nic Fink, which means both get silver medals.

The British swimmer took a break from the sport after the Olympics in Tokyo in 2021 because of struggles with mental health.

"I am not crying because I have come second. I am crying because of how much it took to get here," Peaty told the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú.

"In my heart I have won. These are happy tears."

And Adam's hunt for even more medals will continue later this week as he joins the men's and mixed GB relay teams.
