Donald Trump will be the 47th President of the United States.

It's after the Republican Party's nominee secured the votes needed to win the presidency, beating Democratic nominee and current Vice-President Kamala Harris.

Current US President Joe Biden will remain in charge until Trump officially takes up the role in January, at a ceremony called the inauguration.

So, what can we expect from the new president?

Mr Trump will announce his wider plans for his government in due course, but here are some of the big issues he talked about during his presidential election campaign.

Mr Trump has said all along that one of his biggest priorities is to improve the economy, to help people deal with the rising cost of living and feel like they have more money in their pockets.

He wants to bring in a number of tax cuts worth trillions of dollars, including an extension of his cuts which he introduced when he first became president in 2017.

He also says he wants to protect US industry, boost businesses in the country and encourage Americans to buy American goods, by putting taxes on goods from abroad - called tariffs.

He has proposed new 10-20% tariffs on most imported foreign goods, and much higher ones on goods from China.

However, some experts argue that his promise to put in higher tax on imports from abroad could push prices up.

He has also promised to try and get companies to make more things in the US and create jobs there.

During his first presidency, President Trump reduced environmental protections and made America the first nation to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement.

This time, he has again promised to cut climate rules and wants to cut scrap targets for electric cars, which he says will help American car businesses.

Mr Trump also wants to do more to produce US fossil fuels - he said he'd "drill, drill, drill" instead of developing more renewable energy sources such as wind power.

He also wants to open areas such as the Arctic wilderness to oil drilling, which he argues would lower energy costs - though not all experts agree.

What are Donald Trump's plans for foreign policy?

Mr Trump says he wants the US to stop getting involved in conflicts elsewhere in the world, and to put "America first".

He has previously said he wants to end the war in Ukraine 鈥渨ithin 24 hours鈥 - although he has given no details on what he thinks each side should give up in such a deal.

Trump has also said he would stop the money the US sends to Ukraine.

Trump has positioned himself as a supporter of Israel but said little on how he would end the war in Gaza.

What has Donald Trump said about immigration?

Immigration is near the top of Donald Trump's list of priorities when he becomes president and he wants much stricter rules about who can come into America.

He has also promised the biggest deportation of people who are in the United States illegally - although experts say this would likely face big legal and practical challenges.

Mr Trump has also said he would seal the country's southern border with Mexico by completing the building of a wall and increasing security there too.
