Paul McIlwrath
Paul McIlwrath

I was born in Belfast 1962 and left Ireland in 1980. I lived and worked in Germany and Greece for 6 years before settling in Warwick, where I have a guesthouse. I was encouraged two years ago, (coincidently by another one of your contributors), to have a go at writing poetry. I'm in admiration of those that can rattle off a great poem in 5 mins, for me, however, it's like giving birth!

Autumn Supernova by Paul McIlwrath

Foliage on fire with orange sun
the supernova鈥檚 jus begun
as summer signs off in a blaze of glory

Gangs of leaves chase the car
but, trip and tumbling don鈥檛 get far,
as I speed along an abandoned lane.

The sun outside can鈥檛 warm the chill,
the air is thin, the air is still,
but heavy with foreboding.

Kaleidoscopic spears of light
cut through the trees lit-up so bright
and saturate the senses on this most beautiful of days.

This grand bazaar of potpourri
gives up itself to all for free
and asks for nothing in return, but a moments appreciation.
