Breathing Places

At Lough Neagh Discovery Centre on Wednesday 29th July we joined forces with CBeebies and the Green Balloon Club to get young children and their families excited about nature....

Lurgan Park Springwatch Dirty Weekend.'

The Green Balloon Club is on CBeebies every Friday and is aimed at children aged 3-6 years. It encourages them to explore and care for nature.

Lough Neagh Discovery Centre Green Balloon Club Event.

What an amazing day for the crowds that turned up. Despite one heavy shower, the sun shone and nearly 3000 people came along to this fantastic fun day out for all the family.

There were loads of fun activities for everyone, from pond dipping and minibeast hunts to bird watching and boat trips out on the lough. Some lucky nature enthusiasts even got to take pumpkin plants home with them to nurture.

For many though, there was one main attraction - hundreds of parents and excited children turned up to see our special surprise guest Jelly from the CBeebies television show, the Green Balloon Club.

Jelly entertained all who came and happily saw every child who had patiently queued for photos and autographs. There were sing-alongs, a question and answer session, a sneak preview of the latest episode of the Green Balloon Club and the great news that a new episode will be filmed in Northern Ireland later this year!

We have some great pictures of the events at St Columb's Park, Greenmount and Omagh Library.

Even though Green Balloon Club Week is now over have a look at the page where you can download our amazing Nature Tales books or listen to the stories read by Huw Edwards on the Nature Tales CD.
