Smokey

by Jim Lilley

Ìý

When Smokey strolls the garden in the Summer morning light

She stirs up quite a storm and gives, our feathered friends a fright

They kick up such a ruckus and the din is heard afar

As she shoots up trees at lightning speed as if going to a star

Ìý

She has no fear of heights at all, as up she makes her way

To the very thinnest branches, you should see the way they sway

Birds screech and squawk and fly about, to try and scare her off

But she holds on tight and wonders just, which one that she should scoff

Ìý

The crows are diving all around and making such a din

As Smokey moves from branch to branch, no matter if they’re thin

The jackdaws, sparrows, blackbirds too, all try to make her duck

But they don’t worry Smokey, for she has lots of pluck

Ìý

When thing are at their noisiest, and it seems that she must fall

She decides she’s caused enough upset, and she’ll just ignore them all So down she comes with leaps and bounds and calmly saunters off

To have a rest and dream awhile, before her food she’ll scoff.
