Alfie Boe

Alfie Boe

Alfred Giovanni Roncalli Boe to give him his full name is one of the UK's most popular tenors. Adam Tomlinson caught up with Alfie for a chat...

Alfie is the youngest of nine children and was born in Fleetwood, Lancashire.

At 17 he went to work in a car factory in Blackpool as an apprentice mechanic and he used to entertain his colleagues with his singing. One day a client overheard him and suggested he went to London.

He successfully auditioned for the world renowned D'Oyly Carte Touring Opera Company, gave up polishing cars and moved to London.

Working with the C'Oyly Carte was a wonderful experience, but not enough for Alfie. He decided he wanted to learn his craft thoroughly and he enrolled at the Royal College of Music.

Since then Alfie's star has very much been in the ascendancy. He's had four hugely successful albums, appeared on television all over the world and sung on Broadway. Not bad for someone who's still in his 30s!

Alfie spoke to 麻豆官网首页入口 Radio York's Adam Tomlinson about his career so far...
