Though I left
my native West Bridgford (Nottingham)in 1964 to travel the world,
I still miss the good old-fashioned pantos, unique to the British
Isles, I believe. But I must confess I enjoy warm, sunny Christmases.
I enjoy looking at the web cams. I visited Nottingham this Autumn.
Oh, how things have changed. No more Arkwright Street, for heavens
sake! Love your web site. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to
all!

Brigade,5th,Mansfield.. I would appreciate knowledge of members
at that time. Several names spring to mind..Ian Beeby, Michael Barker,
gordon Coupe. Some unfortuatly not with us anymore Charlie {wag}GALE,Tim
Hartley.. Ron {Sailor)Brown.

It was in 1979
since I began to listen to Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú world
service when I was a secondary student in China. In
1983, I made a British penfriend via Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú. We
exchanged corespondences for several years, including campact cassettes
and pictures, and so on and so forth.
Unfortunately, we lost contact after my graduation.
Now I have come to the University of Nottingham to
do my LLM here and I would like to trace her so as to
contact her. I was just wondering if you could offer
me some help in doing so. To be honest, I have been
a devoted and loyal audience of Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú, and I learned a
lot from your programmes such as Question and Answers, Just A Moment,Can
I Help You, Sadrina Project, Walter and Connie, Follow Me, Follow
Me in Science,Bidding for Power, and so on.The process of tracing
her could be regarded as a contribution to the development of freindly
relations between British and Chinese peoples, and therefore it
is both conducive and
worth-while doing so.
All the informations about her I can provide is as
follows:
Her name is Deborah Ann(?)Brown, Deb for short,
lived in a town(or district)called "Swinton", in
Nottingham(?), her hair was curled, her fiance at
the time was Malcolm, she liked collecting toys, she
sent me a compact cassette recording the most popular
songs at the time, including "Do you really want to hurt
me ?","New Life","Ghost"and so on. My name
was "Little Red", and I was an English major at Anhui
Normal University in China. I still have several pictures
of her and I have brought them with me to the UK.I am
always dreaming of her and looking forward to seeing
her before I go back to China. As you can understand
it is quite rare to meet an old penfriend in her home
country, and possibly I will not be able to meet her
in my whole life if I missed this cherished
opportunity. I am thinking if you could find her
address in your penfreind files recorded in 1980's,
or from the magazine entitled Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú English, or just ask
your audience (or even police) for help.
I should be grateful if you could donate your
generous assistance for me.Your early notice and
consideration will be highly appreciated.

I was born and
raised in Nottingham for 13 years untill we moved to the U.S march
1998. I miss it so much and get really homesick i miss the accent,
freinds, family, going to the chippy, and espicially shopping downtown.
I like it here but it's no way better than England. I just want
to say hi to any of my freinds that might read this. Also the cameras
are a good idea i always look to see if anyone i know's around them.
keep up the good work.

Brilliant to
find such a site, and to be able to read of different peoples experiences
in different parts of the world who share a common bond - Nottingham.
My partner (a Wolves lad) and I (a Burton Joyce gal) moved out to
Vancouver, Canada last year. We love the lifestyle here, but miss
the British humour, Nottingham nightlife, and a good pint of the
village pub bitter. Thankfully we have met some other ex-pats who
share similar nostalgic woes.
Diane Davison

Like Diane I've just moved to BC, Canada, although I left Nottingham
for the South too long ago to admit. My mum tells me the Xmas tree's
up in Burton's arcade (well I still think of it as that) & that
makes me feel very nostalgic. If Diane's missing the local brew
she should come over to Victoria, we've got some excellent brew
pubs here, although it's not Shippos. Nottingham is a great city
and I'm proud to say I come from there.

My husband and
I have just spent 13 months living in the village of Bulcote, just
outside of Burton Joyce. I was born and bred in Bulwell, and left
for the U.S. in 1958. It's true what all the other ex-pats say,
there's no place like Notts. I miss my family terribly and the lovely
shopping in the City.
Yes, it was expensive living there compared to here, but it was
well worth it to be able to spend that time with family and go to
all the places that I never had a chance to see when growing up,
however, I know I will be back to scarf off my favourite foods and
quaff a few pints at the Coach & Horses.
If there's anybody out there in the Hartford, Manchester, South
Windsor area, love to hear from you me duck. I was so excited when
I found this website and to be able to read the goings on in Notts.
Please keep it going - it does wonders for the soul. Cheers and
all the best.

We left Nottingham
seventeen years ago to emigrate to Perth Western Australia and I
must admit we love it here.We keep in touch with relations and friends
by phone and post and have visited several times. After growing up
and living in one city for nearly fourty years you will always have
an attachment for it. Now via the internet we can see what the weather
is like and traffic too by visiting the jamcams, and good old Radio
Nottingham.Keep up the good work Nottm online! Even tho the lifestyle
here is fantastic and we love it, Nottingham still pulls at the
heart strings. Many thanks for this page.

Is this site
also for Expats living in Nottingham? If yes, are there any German
expats in Nottingham? I moved from Shanghai to Nottingham 3 years
ago. Got a bit closer to my home country. But still miss a lot of
things, like Sauerbraten. Wonder if anybody likes a chat?

Nottingham -
lovely place, lovely folk. I left Nottingham for Australia in 1964,
and go back, on average, every 3-4 years. It's a great pity they
pulled down Mundella without giving the opportunity to souvenir
a brick. I have just received a copy of the book 'The Meadows Remembered'
from a good friend over there. We live in Brisbane and like the
lifestyle, but still miss Nottingham a heck of a lot. These pages
are 'triffic' for all us ex-pats. Good on yer, mi duck. Ta-raaa

Would appreciate email address of George Cook, Brisbane, who
mentioned "The Meadows Remembered", so that I could obtain a copy.
Lived in the area until 1950 when I came out to Australia and now
live about 1 hour north of Brisbane. Many thanks indeed.

last one this year for daughters wedding. Still hopeing they may
settle this side of the equator. Love the visits but do not feel
we could return on a permanent basis.Cost of living particularly
house prices and weather the main reasons for this Any ex pupils

I moved to
the US 3 years ago - but I still miss Nottingham. I find myself
watching the road traffic web cams here on this site, just to see
if I can see anyone I know! I was born and bred in Nottingham and
lived there for 40 years....and so I will always be a Notts lad.
I miss the pubs and pork pies and cricket and TV, and the Times.
Oh well....over here we have snow and Presidential elections and
space, but I dream of being able to walk to the Ferry at Wilford
for a pint. Happy days.

In 1992 my husband
(at the time in the United States Airforce) got orders back to the
USA. I was sad and excited too. We both now work for the Department
of Corrections about 2 hours south of Seattle. We make a good living
and live in a lovely area. With all the goodies of an American lifestyle
I still get incredibly homesick and really miss my family. There
is nowhere like Nottingham. The British economy is the only thing
(huge as that is) that is preventing us from leaving all this behind
and heading home on the freedom bird. Expecting our young children
to struggle financially because Mummy wants to be home is very hard
to justify. Even Nottingham people tell me to stay put because they
are miserable due to the job situation and lack of money. It's time
for Englands' people to enjoy some financial comfort. You can take
the woman out of Nottingham but you can't take Nottingham out of
the woman and I am now and always a proud Nottinghamian and believe
Nott! ! ingham and her people to be the best in the world.

It's
been a long time. Left in '59 would love to come back and see my old
town, but I understand its very expensive. Came back two times during
this time, however didn't see much the last time, so this site is
great for me to see and talk about.

I have recently
moved to Canada for the second time, and even though i love it over
here i still miss good old Nottingham. I miss the friendliness of
the Nottinghamshire people and the pubs, Nottingham castle and it's
history. I love being in Canada too but you can't beat Nottingham.

I was born
in Nottingham and my family all still live there. I moved to Moscow
in May 1996, though I still have a house in Beeston. I moved to
Moscow to work for an American Investment Company as a Property
Manager. As you can appreciate the lifestyle over here is substantially
different from that of living in Nottingham, though every Nationality
from all over the world knows Nottingham and the connection to Robin
Hood.
It is interesting to read the old Soviet school text books who portray
Robin Hood as almost the first Socialist - stealing from the rich
capitalist to give to the downtrodden workers! You can almost visualize
the classrooms when the stories were taught to the eager young Pioneers
(Communist equivalent of Boy Scouts).
