Half the muscles in your body are designed for walking, so why not give them a workout in the ‘green gym’ of the countryside?

Radford Bridge

To mark Oxfordshire's 1000th birthday, Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Oxford are leaving a legacy of the year's celebrations in the form of a dedicated walking trail along the River Glyme, between Chipping Norton and Woodstock.

The walk is approximately 16 miles long but it can be completed in stages - a bus service runs along the route.

It follows almost the entire course of the river passing through lots of key points which make up Oxfordshire's history. These include two Capability Brown parklands at Kiddington and Blenheim, deserted villages, a Roman road, water meadows, waterfalls, a 12th century church and let's not forget the river itself.

And a walk in the countryside wouldn't be complete without a stop in a pub for a refreshing drink so we've also made sure you pass a couple of those too!

Lake Clevely

We have teamed up with the County Council's Countryside Service to create the dedicated trail which will be signposted and upgraded in the coming months.

It finishes near the site of a royal manor house where King Henry I had a park with camels, lions and England's first porcupine.
