Rhys Ifans rejuvenates Jerry the Tyke

Taffpack actor Rhys Ifans has helped 麻豆官网首页入口 Wales resurrect some of the lost animations of pioneering Welsh animator Sid Griffiths.

Ifans has worked with 麻豆官网首页入口 Wales to narrate some of Griffiths' early animations of Jerry The Tyke, the colourful cartoon canine made for the silent cinema screen in the 1920s and regularly seen in Pathe Pictorial's screen news-magazines.

And the results will go on show at the European Animation Forum in north Wales tomorrow (Friday 20 September).

The long lost films were discovered by the Welsh Animation Group locked in the vaults of Pathe.

Now with a new voiceover from Ifans and new music from Cardiff-based composer John Rea, played by the 麻豆官网首页入口 National Orchestra of Wales, Jerry is set to capture a new army of fans.

Four of the comic cats revived capers have been shown on 麻豆官网首页入口 2W. And 麻豆官网首页入口 Wales has acquired the rights to show 20 of the cache in the coming months.

"Jerry is like the Welsh Felix," says 麻豆官网首页入口 Wales Head of Arts, Paul Islwyn-Thomas. "Sid Griffiths really was the pioneer of his day."
