麻豆官网首页入口 raises Voices in Bridgwater


An ambitious new 麻豆官网首页入口 project is about to give a voice to people across Bridgwater.


麻豆官网首页入口 Somerset Sound launches Voices in May - part of a national venture that sees 麻豆官网首页入口 staff working closely with local people giving them an opportunity to tell their own stories across TV, radio and online.


麻豆官网首页入口 Voices Producer Steve Haigh has set-up a radio studio at the media centre, located within the Engine Room - Bridgwater's new film and video studio.


The 麻豆官网首页入口 has equipped the studio for the community. It will be used to train local people in radio editing, and as a base for 麻豆官网首页入口 Somerset Sound in the area.


A number of events have been arranged with local partners for Voices, from which 麻豆官网首页入口 Somerset Sound will be broadcasting live.


Programme of events


Friday 9 May


Veg-Out


Local suppliers will set-up stalls outside Chilton Trinity Technology College to help inform parents and children how to make their meals healthier.


The event also includes the first sod being dug at a new community vegetable plot and the planting of an apple orchard in the school grounds.


Presenter Jo Phillips will broadcast her morning show between 9.00am and Noon from outside the school, talking to the food producers, health experts, parents and children.


Friday 16 May


Living History


World War Two veterans in Bridgwater will be at the school to tell children stories of heroic deeds.


The Fleet Air Arm Museum will be there with a display about Naval flying.


And, the Somerset-based Sir William Godolphinf Regiment will re-enact scenes from the Monmouth rebellion.


Local people with war medals and memories of the war should come along to tell their stories.


Think of a Story?


For adults, Margaret Graham, author of romantic fiction, gives a free writing workshop between 1.00 and 3.00pm in Bridgwater Library to co-inside with Adult Learners Week. All welcome.


Adam Thomas will broadcast his afternoon programme live from the workshop between 2.00 and 4.00pm.


Friday 23 May


Brick in the Wall


A day of celebrating traditional local skills, with students from the Construction Course at Bridgwater College demonstrating forms of stonework in the playground of Chiltern Trinity School.


There will be the "topping-out ceremony" of a raised flower-bed in the school grounds. The flower-bed is for disabled students and will be built by volunteers, with bricks donated by a local construction company.


Other projects going on in Bridgwater during the Voices project in May include:


Splash It On, a community art project to paint a giant mural of the town.


Painting By Numbers, local people painting a watercolour of the postcode area where they to build a picture map of the whole town.


Steve Haighsays: "The 麻豆官网首页入口 has invested a large amount in Somerset, including new programmes on Somerset Sound and the Somerset Where I Live website.


"Bridgwater is a thriving community. During May, we hope to connect the town with its local 麻豆官网首页入口 services, and to inspire activities which everyone can get involved in."

Local partners including Bridgwater Education Improvement Partnership, Sedgemoor Council, Adult Learning and Leisure, Sure-start Project, Engine Room, Somerset Food Links, Sustainable Somerset, Bridgwater College (Construction Department), The Prince's Trust, Admiral Blake Museum and Fleet Air Arm Museum are all lending their support for the project.

麻豆官网首页入口 Voices is taking place in 麻豆官网首页入口 local radio stations around the UK this spring. Each local station will broadcast output for their project between 8.00 and 8.30am from 12 to 19 May.
