After nearly ten years co-hosting 麻豆官网首页入口 Radio Kent's most popular programme, Sunday Gardening, presenter Doug Goodyer has decided to retire to his potting shed.

More than 80,000 listeners regularly tune in for Doug's advice on Sunday Gardening, making it Radio Kent's most listened-to programme.

During his long association with the station, Doug has presented a country music programme as well as offering gardening advice on the weekday Afternoon Show.

He has also taken part in Radio Kent's charity shows and fundraising events for 麻豆官网首页入口 Children in Need.

His popularity, wit and extraordinary gardening knowledge guaranteed a large crowd wherever he went.

In 1999 he was named 麻豆官网首页入口 Local Radio Gardener of the Year - an accolade he richly deserved.

Radio Kent's Managing Editor Robert Wallace said: "Doug Goodyer has brought pleasure to many of the county's dedicated gardeners over the years.

"A measure of his popularity is summed up by those listeners who tell me that they regularly tune in on a Sunday morning, although they don't have a garden!"

Doug said: "Having spent the last nine years as the Radio Kent gardener the time has come to hang up my gardening boots.

"I have had the pleasure of meeting and talking on air to some great people over the years.

"It will be strange at first not getting up early on Sunday mornings but I think after a time I will get used to it. I have a very demanding day job - taking it easy at weekends has now become a must."

Doug's last broadcast will be on Sunday 29 August.

A search for his replacement has begun although it will be a tough act to follow.
