Having won their heats in spectacular fashion, the five finalists are
now confirmed for the first ever Junior Mastermind final on Saturday
4 September, 麻豆官网首页入口 ONE, 7.00pm.
Each contestant must choose a different specialist subject for the
final and, as in the heats, the ten and eleven year olds will again
face a further two minutes of general knowledge questions from quizmaster
John Humphrys.
The contestants lining up in the final are:
Lucy from Manchester on the geography of Australia
Daniel from Cardiff on James Bond villains
Jacob from Manchester on frogs
Rose from Cheshire on Western European geography
Sophie from London on The Princess Diaries
John Humphrys isn't placing any bets on the winner: "I always get it
wrong when I try to predict the winner so I won't even try and predict
who will win Junior Mastermind - the competition is far too strong!"
Each of the five contestants will compete for a trophy and the ultimate
accolade of Junior Mastermind 2004.
Over 250 schools from all corners of the UK applied for information
on Junior Mastermind and the children who made it through to the heats
come from a variety of schools around the country and from a wide range
of backgrounds.

The contenders:
Lucy from Manchester
Specialist subject for the final: the geography of Australia Specialist
subject for the heat: the history of the Grand National 1990 - 2004
(Lucy scored 15 points on her specialist subject and a total of 26 points
in her heat).
Lucy has never been to Australia, although she'd like to: "I'd particularly
like to climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge, although the age restriction
is 12, so I'll have to wait for another year, I think!"
Daniel from Cardiff
Specialist subject for the final: James Bond villains
Specialist subject for the heat: History of the VW Beetle (Daniel
scored 16 points on his specialist subject and a total of 25 points
in his heat).
Daniel chose to answer on James Bond villains: "I think James Bond
is fantastic because of the cars, the gadgets and the action. It's like
no other film!" he says.
"I think it's really cool taking part in Junior Mastermind. The pressure's
not going to be so high now that I've done it once, I know how everything
is going to work out."
Jacob from Manchester
Specialist subject for the final: frogs
Specialist subject for the heat: Vincent Van Gogh (Jacob scored 16
points on his specialist subject and a total of 25 points in his heat).
Hopefully Jacob will have better success than his father, who lost
on Crackerjack in 1963.
"He told me he could answer every single one of everyone else's questions,
and he didn't know any of his, so I hope that doesn't happen to me!"
Rose from Cheshire
Specialist subject for the final: Western European geography
Specialist subject for the heat: the life and reign of Queen Victoria
(Rose scored 15 points on her specialist subject and a total of 27 points
in her heat).
"I thought it was really exciting doing Junior Mastermind," says Rose.
"You feel really good when you get an answer right, it's just a really
nice feeling."
Sophie from London

Specialist subject for the final: The Princess Diaries
Specialist subject for the heat: Noughts and Crosses series by Malorie
Blackman (Sophie scored 12 points on her specialist subject and a total
of 19 points in her heat).
Sophie told John Humphrys that she wants to be Prime Minister when
she's older.
She also tells John how she has written to Tony Blair, as part of a
school project, to ask how he uses maths in his job, although she didn't
get a reply.
"You will now!" John assures her.
