6 Music has been named Best Radio Station at the 2005 BT Digital Music Awards.

Evening Sequence presenter Tom Robinson collected the award last night on behalf of 麻豆官网首页入口 6 Music at London's Hammersmith Palais.

The award was open to any UK-based radio station available via a digital platform in the UK in the past year.

A panel of music industry professionals awarded each station entry a score to reach a shortlist that included 1Xtra, Virgin Radio, LAUNCHcast and Radio Magnetic.

People were then invited to vote online for their Best Radio Station - and 12 other categories - at the Digital Music Awards website.

Over the course of a month the website attracted over half a million votes and the winners were calculated by adding the public vote to the judges' scores.

6 Music, says: "I am particularly delighted that, in the context of the digital broadcast world, the quality of 麻豆官网首页入口 6 Music has been recognised. It's a real honour to win this."

Ric Blaxill, Head of Programmes, 6 Music, says: "I feel very proud of everyone at 麻豆官网首页入口 6 Music.

"The whole radio landscape is changing and becoming increasingly competitive so it's significant that 6 Music has been recognised as a distinct and entertaining music station, by both industry judges and radio listeners."

6 Music was the first national music radio station to be launched by the 麻豆官网首页入口 in 32 years.

The roster of 6 Music presenters includes Phill Jupitus, Steve Lamacq, Nemone, Marc Riley, Bruce Dickinson and Craig Charles, who play the best in rock, punk, funk and popular music.

6 Music playlist is not dictated by the charts or influenced by fashion trends.

It embraces a large range of music genres and, alongside regular live sessions, provides a national platform to the more obscure and less commercial tracks that rarely receive airtime on radio.

Artists such as Arctic Monkeys, Kaiser Chiefs, Editors, Hard-Fi, MIA and Antony & The Johnsons were championed by the network long before they entered mainstream consciousness.

Notes to Editors

6 Music is available on DAB digital radio, digital satellite (channel 870), digital cable (channel 865 or 909), Freeview (channel 707) and online at bbc.co.uk/6music.

The BT Digital Music Awards will be broadcast on Channel 4 tonight.
