James Alexandrou set to leave EastEnders in August 2007

James Alexandrou, who plays the character of Martin Fowler in EastEnders, will leave the show next summer. He will will be off-screen in Autumn 2007.

James said: "I've decided to leave the show to experience other aspects of my industry. Having turned 21 I felt it was an apt time to leave.

听

"I owe everything to the show and would love to come back one day - that is if EastEnders would have me."

听

A show spokesman said: "James has been a much loved cast member for the last 10 years. We'll miss him greatly but wish him all the best for the future."

听

The storyline for Martin's exit has not yet been planned but show bosses confirmed that the door will be left open for his return.
