Record-breaking audience figures for Radio Wales

麻豆官网首页入口 Radio Wales has achieved record-breaking results in the latest Rajar results.

The figures show that Radio Wales has broken the half million barrier with 526,000 listeners tuning in each week.

The listening figures mark a massive leap of 100,000 from last quarter, and mean that 21% of adults in Wales regularly tune in to the national station.

Radio Wales is also persuading listeners to spend more time with their radios, with each listener tuning in for 13陆 hours each week.

Thanks to the growth in listening, Radio Wales now has a record share in Wales - bigger than 麻豆官网首页入口 Radio 1 for the first time ever.

With the biggest gains among Radio Wales' news-based programmes Good Morning Wales, Richard Evans Phone-In and Good Evening Wales, the station's current success mirrors the strategy of Editor Sali Collins.

"I'm absolutely thrilled that so many people are now choosing to listen to Radio Wales," she said.

"It's great to know our mix of news, sport, music and speech is appealing to so many new listeners.

"We've also seen an increase across a range of programming alongside hugely popular favourites such as Roy Noble, Jamie Owen, Owen Money and Chris Needs.

"I've been in this job for exactly a year, so this is a rewarding first anniversary present for me and the team."

麻豆官网首页入口 Radio Cymru is also going from strength to strength and attracting a younger audience.

An extra 10,000 listeners since last quarter brings its weekly fan-base to 165,000.

On a daily basis, almost 100,000 listeners are now tuning into the Welsh language service.

Radio Cymru listeners tune in for 13陆 hours each week - matching Radio Wales - and the station reaches 30% of fluent Welsh speakers each week, higher than any other radio station.

Editor Sian Gwynedd said: "These figures are very encouraging and it's good that Radio Cymru is still retaining its audience throughout Wales.

"We're also pleased that we are attracting a bigger audience of younger listeners to the station."

Notes to Editors

Rajar (Radio Joint Audience Research Ltd) issues official radio listening figures four times a year. The latest figures are for the period ending March 2007.
